Dear Pressure

A collaboration with Lotta Borcherding, Pat Göckert, and Dejan Klement.

In our performance, we directly confront the issue of societal pressure tied to gender stereotypes. We've chosen to use text and video as our primary mediums. Through these texts, we express the pressures we feel and share our personal thoughts on this topic. Each of us wrote our own text, which resulted in a multilingual composition, reflecting the diversity of our identities. The performance itself takes place in a circle, with the performers surrounding the audience. This arrangement is meant to transfer a sense of pressure onto the audience, allowing them to experience the confinement and restrictions imposed by binary gender roles.

The visual aspect of the video installation shows us in various scenarios, metaphorically fighting against the constraints of the binary system. The focus is heavily placed on our bodies and movements. Our aim with this performance is to raise awareness about this issue and to celebrate the diversity of human identity.

The original performance took place on January January 15, 2024 during the "Syrup" event at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Angewandte). It was then performed again on January 26, 2024, at Lichtraum eins, where it was also displayed as a video installation made by Pat Göckert.
